About Coxhoe

Coxhoe is a small village located within the County Durham area between Bowburn and West Cornforth. Coxhoe dates historically back to medieval times but like many nearby villages in the South Durham area, it began to develop further in the late 1700’s as a result of it’s ties with the coal mining industry.
From the outset of the 1800’s to mid 1800’s Coxhoe’s population grew from 117 to 3,904 people. Coxhoe also once had two train stations, north and south of the village, a gasworks and a pottery producing coarse brown pots and clay tobacco pipes.
